This morning I saw a caricature of Jesus and Satan deadlocked in an arm wrestling match. I thought in my heart, I don’t think that’s really that accurate. I presume the well intentioned artist was illustrating that Jesus is in active opposition to Satan or they are to each other. Anyway, this image stuck with me as i went on with my day and during my quiet time with the Lord I began to ask Him about it. What follows are His responses to my questions.
You have heard it said that there is a body of Christ, where Christ is the head seated at the right hand of the Father and the Saints constitute His body also known as the Church. If Christ is the Head of the Church than Satan is the head of his own body of followers which is in a current state of enmity with Jesus and His Church. Jesus crushed the head of Satan on the Cross but his own heel was bruised.
In Genesis 3:15 it says:
“And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her Seed;
He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel.”
Taking this a bit further, The Lord says:
“Heaven is My throne,
And earth is My footstool.”
Isaiah 66:1, Matthew 5:34-35, Acts 7:49
Christ we know is at this time seated at the right hand of the Father; however, the Church is the body, residing here on Earth composed of various body parts: eyes, ears, feet and so on. (Read: 1 Corinthians 12)
So, in the Jesus’ Church, some of us are eyes (seers), some are ears (prophets), some are the mouth (perhaps teacher) so that the full compliment of body parts which the Lord has placed in His Church is represented.
The Lord places a calling or in most cases several callings on each of us over the course of our lives, anointing us for the specific work that task requires. Calling coupled with our gifting and the Holy Spirit empower us as we do the work of the body here on Earth as the Christ wills us to do.
Now i believe that each of us have a little ear at times or mouth at other times or maybe a foot here or a hand there, as the Spirit of God leads and anoints us for the Heavenly task of the moment. That may mean that sometimes we get a Word from the Lord for someone and we go deliver it to them or see a vision for a loved one to encourage them or maybe you feel lead to go help out at a soup kitchen one weekend.
In Isaiah 52 the Lord says:
“How beautiful upon the mountains
Are the feet of him who brings good news,
Who proclaims peace,
Who brings glad tidings of good things,
Who proclaims salvation,
Who says to Zion,
“Your God reigns!””
And again in Romans 10:
“How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:
“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,
Who bring glad tidings of good things!””
If the eyes are the seers and ears the prophets, then the feet of Church are the Missionaries. These are those anointed by God to go out to the nations and make disciples of them. They carry the Gospel in their hearts and mouths and are equipped to give an account of the Hope that we carry for Christ’s sake. But I stated earlier we are all a little ear, eye, mouth … foot. We are all called to give an account of our faith to others as it says in 1 Peter 3:13-17:
“13 And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? 14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.” 15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 16 having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. 17 For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.”
“Prepare to be bruised oh you Holy Heel. For beautiful are the feet of those who carry My Gospel!!!
Do not fear and be very brave!
When you enter your stores and supermarkets speak to them and show them my Loving Kindness. Usher in the Kingdom of Heaven that My Throne may be brought down to Earth. Let My Will be on Earth as it is here in Heaven.”
In Job when the Lord asks Satan “From where do you come?”, Satan replied:
“From going to and fro on the Earth and walking back and forth on it.”
Satan is himself a missionary and though the head of his body is crushed, there is still life lingering in his dying body. As a branch cut from a vine does not yet know that it is dead, so it is with Satan’s body, still able to function albeit in an ever diminishing capacity.
We all also must realize this and adopt a missionary heart for those we encounter daily, winning the hearts and minds of those when the Lord sends us on his Heavenly Assignments. Be vigilant in this. We too must go to and fro across the earth walking back and forth on it, winning hearts and minds for Christ. Do this in every encounter you have with all humanity.
